Had a punctured tyre replaced by these guys. Few months later I went to a different mechanic to get my WOF done and my car was failed because it was the wrong tyre for my car, and I had to spend another couple hundred for a new tyre. These guys wasted $550+ of my money and I would not recommend them.

Always helpful, always friendly, excellent service. I have been a customer for years and really appreciate everything they do to keep my car (20+years old) in excellent condition.

I am amazed that Car Tech Island Bay has such high reviews. I had a problem with the locking mechanism on the liftgate of my van and was passing through Wellington (I suspect someone kicked the liftgate hoping to open it while it was parked because the mechanism was completely loose). Anyway, I called around and Car Tech Island Bay was the only garage that could fit me in. I really appreciate how fast they were able to have a look at my car and order a new (second-hand) locking mechanism. However, this is when it started going down hill. When I picked up the van after the diagnosis it was obvious that someone was smoking cigarettes in my van (the van is converted, So I was living in it), which is very unprofessional. Secondly, they charged me $431 for a second-hand locking mechanism ($280) and 1 hour labour for installation. I found a brand new locking mechanism from Mazda for $160 on Amayama.com but unfortunately it would have taken a month to ship from Japan, so I rationalized that I was willing to pay a premium for getting it done. In other words, I was willing and happy to pay $120 more for a second-hand locking mechanism if I could get it sorted while I was in Wellington. However, not only was I (in my opinion) overcharged and disrespected by the mechanics by having them smoke cigarettes in my campervan, they also failed to correctly install the locking mechanism. Two days after they fixed the issue, the liftgate was jammed shut again. Luckily I was still in Wellington so I brought it back and they fixed the issue; apparently it wasn't installed right, as admitted by the shop. I was actually relieved as it was fixed and I didn't have to pay out anymore money. The mechanic said it wouldn't happen again and I was good to leave Wellington, which made me forgive all of the issues I had noticed with the business. Now a month after I leave, again the trunk jams and won't open. I just paid another garage $100 to fix an issue that I already paid for. The opening mechanism actually feels sturdier and more functional than it did previously. Honestly, I couldn't trust these guys less. Cons: 1 - smoked cigarettes in my campervan 2 - in my opinion, overcharged me for second-hand parts and labour ($280 second hand vs $160 new) 3 - still failed to fix the issue. I had to pay another garage to fix it after it failed twice since the initial installation. Pros: 1 - overall seemingly nice guys 2 - fast service

Phil and the team at Car Tech are awesome! I have previously taken my Audi in for a Wof there, and today they managed to have a look over it before a big drive as I had some worries about it that came up over the weekend. They are very helpful, friendly and have really great pricing - and very helpful at explaining what everything means for someone who doesn’t know much about cars! I will definitely be using them as my mechanic in future, and suggest you should too!

Phil and his team at Cartechs in Island Bay have been servicing my family's vehicles for the last 15 years or so. I have found them to be very genuine and realistic with their quotes and the servicing has always been excellent. If an unknown problem / fault has been detected Phil has always called to discuss and advise. Phil has at times gone out of his way to be of help and assistance - a genuine good guy who look after his clients!I really respect and appreciate this company and the work they do and have recommended others to them over the years.
